I can’t even ENJOY IT!

My students are WORKING ON THEIR OWN in my most hated class, SAA. SAA stands for… Studying A-something A-something. It’s pretty pointless that I don’t care to remember the acronym. The teachers are supposed to teach the students studying skills and hold tutoring/studying hours. It’s a great concept except without a roll sheet, the ability to give out grades and a direction for work, the students take advantage of the time to just socialize. Management is hard.

BUT NOT TODAY! They students walked in and my head was on my desk. They asked if I was ok, and no I am not. I have this MASSIVE headache. I didn’t care what the students did today in class, I just wanted to be left alone.

I was expecting some mayhem. Just some. Instead, they walked in, sat down and worked. The usual boys that sat together being disruptive and loud actually sat apart! The talkative girls wanted to play a silent card game. Everyone else took out their homework (Chemistry, my class) and grouped together to have a tutoring session.

I was SHOCKED! With tea in hand, I walked from student to student asking, “What’s wrong with you today?” To the usually-entourage-ish guys I asked, “You guys broken up? You fighting or something?” And YES!!!!!!

The boys are fighting because they got into an argument. In response to this delightful tiff they are now reading books and helping me grade papers. Quietly. The clique-y girls are playing hangman, having moved on from their card game, using Chemistry and History words they learned in class. The others are huddled together in a small tutoring session for Chemistry.

It’s so beautiful! My classroom looks so wonderful with all these studying/productive students! AND I CAN’T FULLY ENJOY IT WITH THIS STUPID HEADACHE!

How often do these boys argue to the point of silence? When do talkative girls play well together using ACADEMIC games they made up? How often does my craziest student sit there quietly working on homework only talking to ask me the question, “Miss, does somber mean quiet?”?

AAH! BUT IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!

:My students are laughing at me being so gleeful:
